How to Covering Tracks over Network (Hide Your Self From Them)

Covering Tracks over Network – Most important step of a Hack attack. Most Hackers know how to hack into networks as lots of tutorials are available over the internet regarding how to do information gathering, scanning or networks and vulnerability database. But you will hardly find anything likecovering your tracks over network.. that means most people know how to get into system but don’t know how to remove their tracks, so that they remain undetected. And if you are detectable then you are finished. You will be until and unless you don’t remove your tracks. So friends, lets learn how to cover your tracks over Network to remain undetectable in Hacker’s Guide.

How to cover tracks over Network :

Covering Tracks Using Reverse HTTP Shells :

In this type of attack, the attacker installs a reverse HTTP shell on the victim computer. This reverse HTTP shell is coded is such a way that it ask the commands from an external moderator who controls this reverse shell at regular intervals. So it looks like a normal traffic to an organization network perimeter security device like a firewall, as port 80 is usually opened.

Covering Tracks over Network - Hackers Guide

Once the attacker receives the request from the reverse HTTP shell, commands will be issued back that will be executed locally by the victim. This all is seen as HTTP request /response to the network devices. Once the commands get executed, results will be sent out in the next web request. These HTTP reverse shells can also be programmed to bypass any static authentication required by perimeter devices, like a firewall.

Covering Tracks using ICMP Tunnels :

Because HTTP reverse shells are so famous, some organizations keep a check on what is leaving their network in response to the client’s GET request. Some also check what comes as a reply to a GET request and most probably the attacker commands can be detected there. In lieu of this, some carry traffic via covert channels using ICMP packets. This is usually successful because organizations block only incoming ICMP packets and forgot about outgoing ICMP packets. Because of this configuration, an attacker uses ICMP packets to transfer TCP payloads.

Covering Tracks over Network - Hackers Guide

First the attacker configures the local client to connect with the victim client. The victim in turn encapsulates the TCP payload in an ICMP ECHO packet and forwards it to the proxy server. The proxy server in turn de-encapsulates the packet and extracts the TCP payload and send to attacker. To the network devices, it seems like a simple ICMP packet.

Various tools are available to do this. Some of them are given below:

  • Ptunnel

  • Loki

  • ICMPShell

  • PingChat

  • ICMPCmd

_357c1652_ using TCP Parameters :

How about distributing the attacker’s payload via the normal TCP packet instead of the encapsulating protocol? This method is well known and even today can be used to bypass IDS/IPS. The attacker can distribute the payload via the unset parameters of the TCP packet.

Covering Tracks over Network - Hackers Guide

Some of the interesting fields in TCP packet that can be used to transfer the content are:

  • IP Identification: This attack is very simple to conduct. It requires an established session between the two sides. From one side the payload is transferred bitwise in the IPID field.

  • TCP initial acknowledgement sequence number: This is a tricky method. This method uses a bounce server whose whole purpose is to receives the packet from the client and send it to the attacker machine. Below are the steps that are used in this method

    • Client generates a TCP SYN packet with a spoofed source address of the receiving server and destination address of the bounce server. Let’s say the initial sequence number is ISNA, which holds the character to be transmitted.

    • Bounce server receives the packet and responds SYN-ACK OR RESET, based on whether the port is closed or not. An interesting point is that it does send a reply, but to where? Yes, it sends the reply to the receiving server because it receives a spoofed source address. It replies with a SYNB, ACK(ISNA+1).

    • Receiving server receives this and recovers the character from sequence number field.

  • TCP initial sequence number: This method does not even require am established connection as is required in the IP identification method. A SYN packet is sent with an ISNa (initial sequence number) containing the payload (bit). Even though if it gets a RESET in reply, the content is already been extracted by the other side.

Computer Strain (Save you eyes and Future)

No more watery eyes, when you wake up from sleep in the middle of the night to work on your bright computer screen. Your eye savior, f.lux is here. First things first, what is f.lux and why do you need it?

Why do you need f.lux ?

Decreasing the brightness is not that attractive an option, because the blue light emissions from your screen is still significant enough to well up your eyes with water and completely ruin your sleepy state. It is proven that exposure to blue light significantly aids in keeping you awake for a longer time in the night.

To get to the science behind it, here’s why. Most of us don’t know this, but there is another kind of receptor cells beside rods and cones in our retina. It’s called Melanopsin. The discovery was made about 15 years ago. Melanopsin is sensitive to narrow band of blue light in 460-480 nm range. Melanopsis works different functions for different creatures, but that’s another story.

There are two things I’d like to recommend to your reading list to get more information about melanopsin and effect of blue light on sleep:

1) Internal Time by Til Roennberg

2) Research Papers and articles – link

What is f.lux what does it do?

f.lux is a desktop applet for Windows, Linux, Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch which limits the glow of your screen. Instead, it replaces that with a warm tone. There is no problem for your eyes not to feel comfortable on the screen in the morning. The daylight is sufficient and doesn’t let your eyes feel the glow that the screen throws. But say at 11 PM while you are, say trying to work late after sneaking on your father or wife, you power up your computer and you get instantly taken back by the brightness!

You can reduce the brightness and contrast to a certain extent, but there is a limit to which you can go without compromising your experience. f.lux comes to rescue here. It automatically switches to a warm tone at night and goes back to a brighter shade in the morning.

Don’t worry as it uses only 3.86MB of RAM approximately, is completely free, has no CPU load and works like a charm without any user interference. The working is also fairly simple. You can also customize the way it works, especially how warm you want your screen to be at night.

How to use f.lux to save your eyes?

It does the work by calculating your present location (through google maps)and works according to the sunrise/sunset cycle. The f.lux indicator applet automatically manages the color temperature of your screen based on your latitude and longitude, or if you are in the US, your zip code.

In the preferences panel, you can set your preferred night-time color temperature and see a preview, as well as seeing the current color temperature.

You can even pause the applet if you want to:

You can download f.lux for windows here and for Mac here.
For iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch you need to jailbreak your device in order to install it. You can follow the instructions here.

To install f.lux on Linux (Ubuntu) open up the terminal and copy paste the following commands one by one.

If you are having an error in adding the ppa (the first command), follow this link to troubleshoot it.

The Linux GUI of the f.lux applet doesn’t provide as much customizing options as that of the other platforms, so if you are interested in adding features to it, you could do it on its open source code on GitHub.

If you have any other query regarding f.lux, comment your queries below. Do share your experiences.

How to Hack & Secure a Wireless Network (Complete Guide)

Wifi stands for Wireless Fidelity, Its a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point and a network switch.
They are commonly used to allow access to the Internet or a computer networks without the need for a cabled connection. Wifi is commonly used in airports , Offices etc

How Wifi Works?

The working of Wifi is pretty simple to understand. The components of wireless network includes a communication device such as a laptop or a cell pone etc, a router and internet connection
The communication device which has a wireless compatibility ( laptops )converts the data in the form of radio waves and transmits it to the router, through an antenna. The router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection.

The reverse communication follows the same ( i.e) the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signals and sending it to the computer’s wireless adapter.

What’s the Risk?

Security is an important part of a home wireless network. If you set your router to create an open hotspot, anyone who has a wireless card will be able to use your signal. And he/she will be able to use your internet connection .

To protect and keep our internet private we can use one the following encryptions

WEP

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is a weak security algorithm for wireless networks. Its intention was to provide data confidentiality comparable to that of a traditional wired network. WEP, recognizable by the key of 10 or 26 hexadecimal digits, Its widely in use and is often the first security choice presented to users by router configuration tools.
Although its name implies that it is as secure as a wired connection, WEP has been demonstrated to have numerous flaws and has been deprecated in favor of newer standards such as WPA2.

WPA And WPA 2

WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access II ) are two security protocols for wireless networks from the Wi-Fi Alliance that was developed to provide a migration from WEP.
The Alliance defined these in response to serious weaknesses researchers had found in the previous system, WEP

But these encryptions can also be broken , The following demo shows us how easy it is to crack WEP Keys.

How to Secure Your Wireless Network

1. Never use WEP as your encryption type, always use WPA Or WPA 2 as your encryption type.
2.Use strong passwords , which can not be cracked easily by using a dictionary attack or brute force attack.
3. Always Use a Vpn when your using pubic Wifi hotspots.Hope this Information Helps You , For further doubts and clarifications please pass your comments

How to Think Logically (Part 2)

Method Two of Three:
Recognizing Irrationality

1

Recognize how you catastrophize. Many people, especially when in high-stress scenarios, tend to catastrophize. That is, they assume the worst possible outcome for a given event. Try to recognize when you are catastrophizing a moment.

  • Catastrophizing takes on many forms. Say, for example, your boss sent you an email about contributing more during work meetings. If you're prone to catastrophizing, you might take this to mean your job is in jeopardy, your boss thinks you're a poor worker, you'll end up fired and unemployable, and your friends and family members will all think less of you. If you catch yourself snowballing like this, take a deep breath and try to think logically. In this example, you could think to yourself, "It's my boss's job to give me constructive feedback. She just wants to push me to perform my best and everyone gets criticism on occasion. It's a normal part of life."[8]

  • Minimizing is a form of catastrophizing where you ignore your successes and good qualities and do not see the negatives in other people's lives. You may think some people have it all, are flawless and successful, and then when you realize they are flawed in some manner you write them off. You might also do this for yourself - you'll think you're the most successful person in the world then, after a small setback, see yourself as a massive failure. Try to recognize these thinking patterns as flawed and recognize the fact everyone is made of both good and bad qualities.[9]

2

Stay away from self-aggrandizing thoughts. Having an unrealistic sense of self-importance is just as bad as catastrophizing. If you think of yourself as the most important person in the office or the most talented student in a class, you're probably not thinking clearly.

  • Everyone contributes an important role to a company, school, organization, and field. A sense of grandiosity is not only off-putting but it can actually cause you to have setbacks at work and life. A sense of self-awareness is important to regulate how you interact with others. Try to combat feelings of grandiosity by reminding yourself that while it's important to feel good about yourself you need to acknowledge the hard work and contributions of others as well.[10]

  • Personalization is a form of self-aggrandizing where you think events that have little to do with you are somehow caused by your presence. This can be for better or for worse. If a co-worker is talking to an attractive person in the office, you may assume he or she is trying to make you jealous. If the same co-worker can't make it to your birthday party, you may assume he or she harbors a secret grudge against you when in fact he or she may have simply been busy. If you find yourself personalizing, try to remember that other people's lives are as hectic as yours. They likely have little time to make decisions with regards to you.[11]

3

Be aware of magical thinking. Magical thinking is not just for children. Adults sometimes engage in superstitious thought patterns as well, particularly in response to a traumatic event. People believe engaging in some ritual, like wishing or thinking positive thoughts, can have an impact on a situation. Try to remember that, while it's painful to acknowledge, there are many situations over which we have little or no control.[12]

  • This type of thinking is often causes people to not take responsibility for their actions. If you have a problem, make sure to acknowledge and accept it, then find a way to correct or learn from it.

4

Watch for logical leaps. Logical leaps are leaps in judgment, where you make assumptions about people or situations that are not based in reality. People make logical leaps all the time without realizing it.

  • For example, if a cashier is rude to you, you may assume, "I bet she doesn't like me because of my appearance, weight, attire, etc." when in reality you have no idea what another person is thinking.[13]

  • People also tend to assume someone will naturally know what they're thinking, which can lead to confusion. For example, you may assume your roommate knows you want him to let your dog out as you'll be home late, but if you do not express this he may not realize it. Try to be conscious of logical leaps in your day-to-day life and catch yourself making them.[14]

5

Recognize "all or nothing" judgments. All or nothing judgments are a common form of irrational thought patterns. People are unable to see the gray in situations and see situations, people, and outcomes as either entirely positive or entirely negative.[15]

  • You might, for example, feel like you're a complete failure if you misspelled one word in an e-mail without acknowledging the fact your message was conveyed successfully and no one commented on the error. Make an effort to accept that most things in life are neither entirely positive or negative.

How to Think Logically (Part 1)

Do you ever wish you had the ability to solve problems efficiently and easily? If so, you may want to improve your thinking patterns in order to be more logical. Keeping your brain sharp is important as your brain has the power to rewire itself throughout your whole life in a process called neuroplasticity. From engaging in mental exercises, recognizing irrational thoughts, and making lifestyle changes there are many ways to work on thinking more logically.

Method One of Three:
Exercising Your Mind

Test your recall. Your brain, like any other body part, improves with exercise. A great way to give your brain a workout is to test your recall. Throughout the day, see how many details of a given moment, list, or task you can remember.

  • Try to memorize small things each day. Write a grocery list and commit it to memory. Memorize a small passage from a poem or book. Wait an hour and see how much you can recall of what you've committed to memory.[1]

  • Draw a map from memory. Sketch a map going from your home to work, a store, a friend's house, or another place you frequently visit.[2]

  • Notice the little details. Making a conscious effort to notice seemingly irrelevant things can be a huge tool to help you become more logical. Do you notice the new paper cut on your friend's hand? Do you count the steps in your school or college? Do you look for spelling mistakes in texts? If the answer is no, now would be a great time to start. The more you practice, the healthier your mind will be. Over time, you'll become a more critical thinker.[3]

2

Do crossword puzzles. The benefit of crossword puzzles on the mind is well documented. Crossword puzzles force you to push your brain slightly beyond its capabilities, which causes the regrowth of brain neurons. This increases your overall brain power and can promote more sound, logical thinking. Pick up a crossword puzzle book from a local bookstore or do your local newspaper's crossword each morning.[4]

Learn a new talent. Learning new abilities requires a lot of logical thinking. From devising strategies that help you learn to undertake challenging tasks, you use logic and strategy to acquire new skills. Try taking up some of the following activities to boost your logical thinking skills:[5]

  • Learn to play instruments.

  • Learn to draw or paint.

  • Learn to speak a foreign language.

  • Learn to cook.

4

Socialize. Learning from others is a form of mental exercise. Social connections and friendships nourish the brain and push people to strive to better understand themselves and the world around them. Spend time with close friends and family members on a regular basis. Attend social events and take this as an opportunity to meet new people. This can be difficult if you're a shy or introverted person, but pushing yourself to take risks socially can actually improve your ability to think logically.[6]

5

Change up your routine. Novelty helps the brain stay sharp as well as increase your memory. Try taking a different route to work than usual or cooking a new type of food for dinner than you typically would. Experiencing new things helps the brain stay active, which can help you become a more logical thinker.[7]
